Bratislava, February 2 (TASR) - As many as 11 lorries are reported to have been detained by the police at the Triblavina lay-by on the D1 motorway just before the motorway enters Bratislava, TASR was told by Bratislava Regional Police spokesman Frantisek Peczar on Tuesday morning.
Peczar said that the police have detained the lorries in line with the law, in order to prevent traffic flows in the Slovak capital from collapsing.
The Union of Slovak Road Hauliers (UNAS) announced on Wednesday afternoon that hauliers would go on strike as of February 1, while calling for a reduction in the road-toll network, the suspension of toll collection until the end of June, and the removal of shortcomings in the system.
The hauliers say that their action is aimed at re-establishing acceptable conditions for the transport sector after the problematic introduction of electronic tolls on January 1.
