Bratislava, February 2 (TASR) - Slovakia's Ambassador to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Ivan Sramko, who is based in Paris, handed a letter from Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak to OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurria on Monday, TASR was informed by the ministry's press department on Tuesday.
During the first meetings between the two officials, Sramko - who is a former governor of Slovakia's central bank (NBS) - emphasised that he wanted to use his post at the OECD not only to protect Slovakia's national interests, but also to employ his skills and experience in contributing to the OECD's main strategies.
In 2010, Sramko said he would mainly focus on picking the right tools to deal with the negative impacts of the economic crisis on public finances and the pension system, and to stimulate economic growth.
Sramko is new in his OECD post, with the Slovak Government deciding on this move only in early January, as his NBS mandate was expiring. He has replaced Jana Kotova, who began representing Slovakia in Paris in 2005.
