Janis: Fico Should Look in Mirror When Talking About Corruption

Bratislava, February 2 (TASR) - If Premier Robert Fico wants to talk about money laundering, corruption and clientelism, he should look in a mirror and consider the Government's scandals such as those involving the sale of carbon-dioxide emissions, road-tolls, transfers of land in the High Tatra mountains and the notice-board tender, opposition SDKU-DS caucus leader Stanislav Janis told TASR on Tuesday.
Earlier on the same day, Fico, speaking after a Coalition Council session, described SDKU-DS as the most dangerous party in Slovakia when it comes to threats to the country's political system. According to him, the danger lies in the fact that a party is entering a political contest using dirty money, which most probably come from the sale of strategic companies during former premier Mikulas Dzurinda's (SDKU) two terms in office (1998-2006).
"[Facing journalists after the Coalition Council session, Fico] should have looked to his left, where (LS-HZDS head Vladimir) Meciar was standing, and to his the right, where (Slovak National Party/SNS chair Jan) Slota was standing. This is the cream of clientelism in Slovakia," stressed Janis.
Asked whether SDKU will attend a possible extraordinary parliamentary session to discuss its shady funding, Janis said that his party will express its stance after a specific proposal is submitted.
Fico said after the Coalition Council session that Parliament must deal with the issue, as it's in charge of inspecting party funding. He didn't specify the date or form in which Parliament should deal with the affair.
