Meciar: Lipsic's Proposal on Proving Origin of Property Is Pandora's Box

Bratislava, February 2 (TASR) - The legal proposal on proving the origin of property as submitted by Christian Democrat (KDH) vice-chair Daniel Lipsic is a Pandora's box that would twist all relationships backwards, coalition LS-HZDS head Vladimir Meciar said on Tuesday.
"It's not only unrealisable, but also legally impossible," said Meciar, pointing to the fact that Lipsic's proposal lacks any past date as of which the law would be applicable. Meciar also noted that his party isn't willing to support a change in the Constitution that would allow a bill dealing with proving the origin of property to be passed.
Slovak National Party (SNS) chair Jan Slota emphasised that his party isn't against the idea itself, but the bill must be in line with the rulings of the Constitutional Court.
Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD), who has his own concept of the bill, said that he respects the different opinions of his coalition partners. "My colleagues have been straight and have been saying from the very beginning that they won't back the law due to a different legal opinion," he said.
The opposition parties have already announced that they are ready to support Fico's bill, which has been slightly adjusted from the form in place earlier this year.
