Bratislava, February 3 (TASR) - SDKU-DS party vice-chairman Ivan Miklos following a session of the party's presidium late on Tuesday said that he will vie for the post of party election leader ahead of the general election due on June 12, TASR learnt later in the day.
"We've shown readiness and willingness, as long as we're nominated by the presidium or regional associations, to contend for the post of SDKU-DS election leader," said another party vice-chair Iveta Radicova on the same day.
Unsuccessful presidential hopeful Radicova announced her decision to stand as a candidate to lead the party into the general election earlier on Tuesday, on condition that party members show interest in her candidacy.
Miklos said that whoever becomes the party's number one in the election, both he and Radicova are ready to back them.
Radicova's and Miklos's moves came in the wake of SDKU chairman Mikulas Dzurinda's announcement on Monday that he won't appear on the party list for the parliamentary elections.
Speaking late on Tuesday, Dzurinda said that a session of the presidium at which nominations will be made is due to be held on February 15. The top 15 spots on the candidate list as well as the election leader will be decided then, he added.
The final say will come at the party's primary election due on February 27.
