President: Bilateral Relations with Australia Strengthening

Bratislava, February 2 (TASR) - Slovak President Ivan Gasparovic received the credentials of Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Australia to Slovakia Michael John Potts on Tuesday.

"I'm glad that our bilateral relations are improving lately, especially in the sphere of mutual trade," said the Australian diplomat. More than 500 Slovak students live and study in Australia within multi-cultural exchange programmes.

At the meeting, the President conveyed his conviction that "we can advance our relations even more in future, be it in political or economic fields. The same holds true for science, education, culture and sports". Gasparovic also appreciated the joint effort of Slovak and Australian troops in Afghanistan.

On the same day, Gasparovic also received the credentials from Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Estonian Ambassador to Slovakia Eve-Kulli Kala, based in Vienna.

The two officials discussed bilateral relations between Slovakia and Estonia. The Estonian Ambassador expressed her wish to have bilateral exchanges strengthened. "We're small countries ... we need to co-operate more intensely. It's by working together that we can achieve more," she said.
