Trencin, November 24 (TASR) - A petition has been launched at the School of Mechatronics of Alexander Dubcek University in Trencin on Tuesday calling on the rector of the university Miroslav Mecar to resign from his post along with the university's top management.
According to dean of the university Dusan Maga, petitions have also been initiated at other schools, and everyone, including employees of the university and outsiders, can support them.
The university has been accused of awarding degrees to students who have only completed a short period of study. Education Minister Jan Mikolaj has already suspended the university's right to grant bachelor degrees in Human Resources and Personal Management following an investigation.
"When all the evidence shows that mistakes have been made by the university management and that the rector is at the same time directly participating in a number of court cases, he can't simply react after the findings of the inspection commission (are known). He can't act on academic ground like a politician," stressed the author of the call - Mechatronics School lecturer Peter Ponicky.
