Slovnaft: Lower Excise Tax on Diesel Could Be Felt on Wednesday

Bratislava, February 1 (TASR) - Excise tax on diesel was lowered by 11.3 euro cents per litre as of Monday - a change that should be translated into end prices falling by 13 cents at filling stations within a few days.
According to the expectations of Slovnaft refinery spokesman Anton Molnar, cheaper diesel could be on sale at filling stations as of Wednesday. "Everybody is trying to sell diesel with reduced excise tax as soon as possible. Everybody wants to sell it cheaper, so the process will be faster," he added.
The measure was approved by Parliament via a fast-tracked procedure in mid-January, also supported by the Opposition. The main reason for the price reduction was a concession made by the Government to disgruntled Slovak hauliers, who were protesting against the problems accompanying the introduction of Slovakia's new electronic road-toll system.
