Poltar, February 1 (TASR) - Slovak non-governmental association 'For Development' from Poltar (Banska Bystrica region) is due to carry out reconstruction work on an ethnic-Slovak grammar school in Backa Polanka in Serbia, TASR was told by chairman of the association Zuzana Smatlikova on Monday.
"We're counting on the first phase of the construction work to start at the end of June, 2010," said Smatlikova, adding that the work should be completed in September 2011. 'For Development' was chosen by representatives of the grammar school based on a recommendation, she added.
The grammar school is being reconstructed using financial resources provided by Slovak Aid and will cost more than €186,000, with the school contributing around €17,500.
The aim of the project is to improve conditions by doing away with the current two-shift system of lessons, which is necessary because the school premises are shared between the grammar school and the economics secondary school. There isn't enough room for the 1,250 students of both schools at the moment, but this should change thanks to the project, which is set to provide seven new classrooms.
