KDH Election Slate with Figel as Number One, followed by ex-leader Hrusovsky

Bratislava, January 30 (TASR) - In line with all expectations, Jan Figel will be the leader on the Christian Democrat's (KDH) slate before this year's general election, the party's national assembly decided on Saturday.

On the list of party candidates, the former Slovak EU commissioner will be followed by KDH ex-chairman and current caucus leader Pavol Hrusovsky. Commenting on the approved slate, he said KDH's ambition is to win more than 20 parliamentary seats in the general election ahead.

The slate continues with party vice-chairmen Daniel Lipsic, followed by Julius Brocka, Maria Sabolova, Jana Zitnanska, Anton Marcincin and Ivan Uhliarik.

The positions 9 to 16 are occupied by nominees of the regional KDH councils: Pavol Abrhan for Nitra region, Martin Fronc for Zilina region, Jan Hudacky for Presov region, Peter Muransky for Banska Bystrica region, Andrej Durkovsky (Bratislava mayor) for Bratislava region, Alojz Pridal for Trnava region, Julius Stanko for Kosice region, and Marian Kvasnicka for Trencin region.

Christian Democrats are the first to have approved their list of candidates before the general election. If the election is held on June 12, all participating parties have to register their slates by mid-March.

KDH won 14 seats in Parliament four years ago, but their caucus has been left by five members since then. Peter Gabura (who didn't make it to the slate this time because of a disciplinary motion launched against him) was the first one to leave. Later he was followed by Vladimir Palko, Pavol Minarik, Rudolf Bauer and Frantisek Miklosko, who then formed the Party of Slovak Conservative Democrats (KDS).
