UNAS Still Hasn't Revealed Plans for Hauliers' Strike

Bratislava, January 29 (TASR) - The Union of Slovak Road Hauliers (UNAS), which is set to go on an indefinite strike in protest at the Government's recently launched road-toll system early next week, urged the public on Friday to support its cause.

UNAS, which is made up of small and medium hauliers and views the Government's toll system as crippling the haulage industry, is calling for a reduction in the road-toll network, the suspension of toll collection until the end of June, and the removal of shortcomings in the system.

The Union hasn't disclosed yet whether it will block main roads, as it when the system was introduced. It says that it will provide more information on its intentions in due course.

Another major hauliers association CESMAD, which worked with the Government in introducing the toll system, said that it won't support the UNAS action. It has called for more negotiations with the Government instead.
