Bratislava, January 29 (TASR) - SDKU-DS has never used or laundered dirty money, the party's leader Mikulas Dzurinda told reporters on Friday, in response to allegations of shady financing practices made by Premier Robert Fico last week.
"Our party wasn't able to avoid all shortcomings and mistakes in this area in the past, especially after it had just been born. However, it was our governments that boosted the quality of the legislative environment, making it more strict and more transparent," underlined Dzurinda, adding that SDKU is ready to give open answers to any questions related to its financing.
Following a meeting that lasted several hours on Friday, the SDKU leadership came to an unequivocal conclusion - that the companies that lent the party money were never given any advantages in public tenders. Also, the sums concerned were never gifts but always returnable loans. Dzurinda stressed that his party has always run its finances in line with Slovak laws.
Dzurinda described the way that Fico has been attacking the party over this matter as unacceptable.
