Bratislava, January 28 (TASR) - Winter destinations in Slovakia along with historical buildings on the UNESCO list, thermal springs and spas formed only part of the range of attractions presented by Slovak Economy Ministry representative Jozef Kalman at a meeting with Ukrainian journalists on Thursday.
After five years of decline, Slovakia is attempting to increase the number of Ukrainian tourists again.
According to official statistics, around 5,700 fewer Ukrainian visitors travelled to Slovakia in 2008 than in 2007, representing a fall of 16.6 percent. The number of nights spent by Ukrainian tourists in the country went down by 26 percent. The average length of stay dropped from 4.7 days in 2007 to 4.2 days in 2008. Although the final statistics from 2009 are not available yet, the Economy Minister expects a further decline.
A total of 24 journalists attended the press conference, including reporters from two TV stations.
