SDKU-DS and KDH Want to Cooperate to Gain More Votes than Fico

Bratislava, January 27 (TASR) - The aim of opposition parties SDKU-DS and Christian Democrats (KDH) is to offer an alternative to the current Government of Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) in a way that their joint election result would exceed that of Smer-SD, said SDKU-DS chairman Mikulas Dzurinda and KDH chairman Jan Figel at a joint press conference on Wednesday.

According to the Opposition leaders, if they beat Smer together, they would be able to form the core of the future coalition. "We've expressed a very strong will to provide Slovakia with an alternative after the parliamentary elections (in 2010)," said Dzurinda.

Both the chairmen promoted their priorities, which are support of sustainable jobs and young families with children, as well as ensuring the legal state and fighting corruption and clientelism. "The unemployment rate is growing more than two times faster comparing to the European Union average," stressed Dzurinda.

"The Parliamentary session starts next week. I in particular asked KDH MPs for support of KDH proposals concerning MPs' immunity and proving the origin of property," said Figel.

Asked about his reaction to the current dispute between Fico and Dzurinda concerning SDKU-DS's financing, Figel answered that if Fico has relevant information, he should act according to the valid legislation instead of doing such a marketing campaign. He argued that it is Coalition parties that become suspected of clientelism and corruption "almost in every bigger tender".
