Bratislava, January 26 (TASR) - The new South Korean Ambassador to Slovakia Seok-soong Seo has informed Economy Minister Lubomir Jahnatek on Tuesday that prominent Korean investors Kia and Samsung plan to expand the scope of their activities in Slovakia.
"For the Korean Republic, Slovakia is becoming all the more important a partner," said the ambassador, who also appreciated the long-term support Korean investors enjoy in Slovakia.
The Korean side aims to expand the co-operation with Slovakia in new fields, especially the chemical industry, nuclear engineering, science and research. Currently, the Korean companies in Slovakia employ some 20,000 people.
Economy Minister Jahnatek told the Korean Ambassador that a motorway connecting Bratislava with Kosice will be built, significantly improving conditions for foreign investments in eastern Slovakia.
Jahnatek also discussed the intention of Slovakia to build new blocs at the Jaslovske Bohunice nuclear power plant (Trnava region), and Korean companies taking part in tenders remains a possibility. "In this respect, Korean Ambassador Seo replied that his country is participating in the construction of a nuclear power plant in United Arab Emirates and is currently holding negotiations on co-operation with India and Turkey," according to Economy Ministry officials.
