Bratislava, January 26 (TASR) - Opposition SDKU-DS wants to use its time before the parliamentary elections to develop closer relations with its strategic partner the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH), said SDKU-DS chairman Mikulas Dzurinda at a press conference in Bratislava on Tuesday.
Dzurinda specified that the rapprochement [the Dzurinda-led coalition government had to call an early election in 2006 after a feud between the two parties over conscientious objection legislation and other matters - ed. note] should focus mainly on election platforms ... in order to offer a clear and trustworthy alternative that is interesting for voters.
"We will continuing to strategise ... We are leading intense negotiations and on Wednesday (January 27) we will meet for formal talks. We want to offer a strong alternative to the citizens," he said.
The SDKU-DS chief does not plan to offer any further negotiations to Freedom and Solidarity (SaS), since they conditioned the first proposal to enter a coalition on SDKU-DS having a different leader.
[KDH was one of the original five parties that formed the Slovak Democratic Coalition (SDK) in 1998 and was a Coalition partner in the 1998-2992 government led by Dzurinda as well - ed. note].
