Some Two Thirds of Slovaks Happy With Their Lives

Bratislava, January 26 (TASR) - A total of 65.5 percent of Slovaks are content with life in Slovakia, says the ISSP Slovensko 2009-2010 survey published by the Sociological Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAV) on Tuesday.

The most content are people living in Bratislava, Kosice, Trnava and Nitra regions, who are younger than 30, enjoy higher education and better standard of life than their neighbours. Furthermore, Slovaks are more content with their lives than, for example, Hungarians and Roma people.

According to the survey, a total contentment with life is positively influenced mostly by family life, housing and social life. "Generally, it's people with higher education, people who have respectable salaries and own place to live who are content," said Jan Buncak from Sociology Department of Comenius University's Philosophical Faculty, adding that the greatest happiness is associated with family and social life.

The factors decreasing the overall happiness are health problems, lack of education and mainly poor living standards. "More than anything, it's the living standards than influence the total rate of happiness," said Buncak.
