Vazny Wants to Meet Angry Hauliers to Discuss Road Toll System

Bratislava, January 25 (TASR) - Transport Minister Lubomir Vazny wants to meet representatives of the Union of Slovak Hauliers (UNAS) after receiving a letter stating the demands of the disgruntled hauliers last week, said Transport Ministry spokesman Stanislav Jurikovic.

"We received the letter on Thursday (January 21), and on Friday (January 22) we sent a response in which we reacted in terms of changes made and the preparation of regulations. We've proposed a possible meeting so we can react to further incentives," said Jurikovic.

According to Jaroslav Polacek from UNAS, the Union hasn't received the ministry's letter yet. The hauliers will discuss further steps when it arrives. "We don't have a problem with meeting, said Polacek.

UNAS called on the Transport Ministry to mothball the collection of road-tolls until the end of April 2010, and to amend the system of toll collection so that hauliers would only pay for fully-traversed sections of tolled motorways and other roads.
