Israel's Deputy Foreign Minister Ayalon to Visit Slovakia

Bratislava, January 25 (TASR) - Israel's Deputy Foreign Minister Daniel Ayalon will visit Slovakia on Wednesday, January 27, TASR has been told by Kristina Simkova from the Israeli Embassy in Slovakia.

During his official visit, Ayalon will hold talks with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, Deputy Premier Dusan Caplovic, Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak and his State Secretary Diana Strofova. He will also meet mayor of Bratislava Andrej Durkovsky and visit the Bratislava-based Chatam Sofer Museum and the Jewish Museum.

The talks between Ayalon and Slovak representatives will concern remembrance of the Holocaust, ways of strengthening bilateral relations and current foreign-policy issues vis-a-vis the Middle East.

Ayalon will take part in a 'Righteous Among the Nations' ceremony, at which 14 Slovaks will be awarded this title for saving the lives of Jews during WWII. This will bring the total number of Slovaks with the title above 500. Slovakia is among the countries with the highest number of awardees.

Daniel Ayalon is a member of the Knesset and head of the Yisrael Beiteinu party. Between 1997-2002 he was active as a foreign-policy advisor to several Israeli Prime Ministers - Ariel Sharon, Binyamin Netanyahu and Ehud Barak. He is also a former Israeli Ambassador to the United States (between 2002-06).
