Miklos: SDKU Has Never Laundered Dirty Money

Bratislava, January 24 (TASR) - Vice-chairman of the current strongest opposition party SDKU-DS Ivan Miklos on TV Markiza's Sunday debate show 'Na telo' expressly ruled out the possibility that SDKU has ever used illegally-obtained money to finance itself.
Miklos said this in response to accusations made on Friday by Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD), who suggested that SDKU was engaged in some shady financial moves in 2004 and 2005, using shell companies and foreign bank accounts.
"It's nonsense, entirely. It's the same thing that Robert Fico has been harping on for months, and to which we've already made a clear statement. In spite of the fact that the premier constantly keeps coming back to it, no SDKU-DS member has been questioned concerning this matter," underlined Miklos, adding that Fico "talks the talk", but this has always been nothing but "bluffing".
Finance Minister Jan Pociatek (a Smer-SD nominee) said on the show that he has no detailed information on the case raised by Fico. However, regardless of whether there is a criminal background or not, such party financing is "non-standard at first glance".
"What's suspicious about it is that a political party's financial flows are linked to various offshore companies ... this is, in my opinion, a very unusual practice, even if it's in line with the law," said Pociatek.
