Opposition and Activists Protest Against Government

Bratislava, January 23 (TASR) - Six chairmen of opposition parties and hundreds of people gathered at Bratislava's SNP Square on Saturday to take part in 'We Like This Country, We Don't Like This Government' protest demonstration.

The event was organised by civic activist Alojz Hlina, together with Ondrej Dostal from a non-parliamentary party OKS, youth organisations and other activist groups.

"I received an invitation from civic activists and non-governmental organisations, and gladly accepted. The course this country is heading at isn't good and I've been seeing that for quite some time," SDKU-DS Chairman Mikulas Dzurinda told TASR.

"I've come here to demonstrate for decent, responsible and competent politics that this country needs," said KDH Chairman Jan Figel.

"After (the general election in) 2006, Slovakia is on the wrong track, with this national-socialist Government not competent enough to address problems at hand," claimed SMK Chairman Pal Csaky, who demonstrated alongside Most-Hid Chairman Bela Bugar. "I think that we need to say that the king is naked, and the voters have had the wool pulled over their eyes," said Bugar.

Prime Minister Robert Fico's spokesperson Silvia Glendova did not comment on the protest rally.
