Richter: State Will Benefit from Merged Ministries Straight Away

Reduction of the number of ministries from 14 to 12, which the Slovak Parliament approved this week, and which will take effect as of July 1, will bring immediate savings - only this year amounting to millions of euros, said Smer-SD MP Jan Richter on Slovak Radio's weekly debate show 'Sobotne dialogy' (Saturday Dialogues) on Saturday.
He noted that by the end of next election period, the saving effect of this move will be even more visible. "For this year, when it's going to start up, the Finance Ministry expects to save €10-13 million, said Richter.
"I do agree that this is a serious change, but such changes can't be made in a way that the prime minister announces something on January 11, and in two weeks it's already approved by Parliament ... and not even employees of the said ministries are aware of it," said Richter's opponent in the show Julius Brocka from opposition KDH.
Brocka doesn't believe that the downsizing measures will bring financial savings already this year. "I guess it's not going to be saving at all; quite the contrary, this will be a costly thing," said Brocka.
Richter pointed out that administrative reductions are included in the Government's Manifesto. "I'm convinced that this will lay down a good groundwork for the new cabinet set-up to begin its performance in a standard way," he said.
