Downturn in International Travel Hitting Kosice Airport Too

Kosice, November 23 (TASR) - The number of passengers at Kosice Airport has been dropping every month since the beginning of this year, the airport reported on Monday.

The largest drop was observed in October, when a total of 19,240 passengers were served by the airport, down by 54 percent compared to the same month last year.

This year's largest number of people served by the airport - 50,613 passengers - was seen in July. This figure, however, is 40 percent lower than in July 2008.

The yearly number of passengers at the airport up to 2008 was on the rise for several years. In 2008, a total of 591,000 were served by the airport, up by 33 percent compared to 2007. However, developments in 2009 indicate that for the first time since 2003 a year-on-year drop is likely to be observed.

[A privatisation initiative over three years ago saw two-thirds of Kosice Airport bought by the Austrian company KSC Holding - ed. note].
