MPs Demand Contract on Electronic Road-Toll System to Be Public

Bratislava, January 22 (TASR) - MPs demand that the contract signed between the National Highway Company (NDS) and road-toll provider SkyToll be published, said parliamentary Committee for Economy Policy member Stanislav Janis (SDKU-DS) after meeting with Transport Minister Lubomir Vazny on Friday.

Transport Minister Vazny has no objections; however, the proposal doesn't sit well with the NDS General Director, said Janis.

"We'd like to see this contract and get to know what we've paid for. This is about clearing up the whole issue and transparency," said Janis.

The appeals to publish the contract are coming not only from Opposition but Coalition MPs as well. "These are public resources, so I think people and MPs alike have a right to know what's in the contract," said committee member Peter Pelegrini (Smer-SD).

The Committee for Economic Policy decided to dispatch its members to NDS for a MPs' inquiry over the new electronic road-toll system. "Mr. Minister (Vazny) informed us today that he spoke with the NDS General Director and gave him instructions to meet all of our demands during the inspection and to provide us with access to all the information we might ask for," said Pelegrini.
