Bratislava, November 23 (TASR) - The portfolio that Slovakia will occupy in next EU Commission should reflect the headway that Slovakia has attained over the past five years, Slovakia's current EU Commissioner Maros Sefcovic, who is in charge of education, training, culture and youth, said following his meeting with Prime Minister Robert Fico on Monday.
"I believe that this will be the case after a decision to this effect is made," said Sefcovic, who will be Slovakia's representative in the next Commission, too.
However, Sefcovic was reticent to say which post Slovakia aims to occupy, apart from the country's well-known interest in the energy portfolio. "The priorities have been made clear at several meetings. The European Commission President (Jose Manuel Barroso) is well-aware of them, and it's up to him to decide how he'll distribute the portfolios among member countries," said Sefcovic, adding that Barroso should make his decision within a week or two.
In reference to talks that Barroso holds with candidates for Commissioners on an interview basis, Sefcovic noted that the Commission chief "wants to get to know you better, he wants to know your personal history, your character, and for which area you would be the most appropriate or efficient member of the European Commission in its future team."
