Bratislava, November 23 (TASR) - Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak and US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs Pamela Quanrud on Monday discussed Slovakia's plans to strengthen its military presence in Afghanistan, Lajcak's spokesman Peter Stano told TASR on the same day.
"Slovakia is determined to strengthen its engagement in Afghanistan, as it wants to contribute to stabilisation of that country," said Lajcak, who last week discussed the same issue with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg.
According to Stano, the U.S. administration appreciates this decision of Slovakia, and views it as important for the overall success of the international community in Afghanistan and that it attests to the close alliance between Slovakia and the US.
Lajcak also touched on the Iranian nuclear programme, which has caused concern among the international community, and the current situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as the EU's Eastern Partnership.
