St Kitts and Nevis to Open Embassy in Slovakia, Covering Also Neighbours

Bratislava, November 23 (TASR) - Slovakia's Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak is to meet Denzil Llewellyn Douglas, Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister of the Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis, on Tuesday, Slovak ministry spokesman Peter Stano told TASR on Monday.

Tuesday's meeting will follow up on talks the two representatives conducted in New York in September, during which Douglas announced his intention to open an embassy of St. Kitts and Nevis in Bratislava. Lajcak at that time promised Douglas that Slovakia will lend its support in these endeavour.

"We welcome this intention, after establishing diplomatic ties between our countries last year, this is a further, logical step that will contribute to the intensification of contacts, mainly in tourism," Lajcak said in September.

With the embassy in Bratislava, the two-island nation located in the West Indies (pop. 40,000) wants to get closer to the European market. This representation office, taking advantage of a location in the centre of Europe, would also serve as the country's embassy to Slovakia's neighbouring countries.

Slovakia and St. Kitts and Nevis introduced a mutual visa-free regime in May this year.
