MPs Heading for Enquiry at National Highway Company Due to Tolls

Bratislava, January 21 (TASR) - There will be an MPs' inquiry at the National Highway Company (NDS) at the beginning of next week, it was decided on Thursday at a session of the Economic Policy Parliamentary Committee.

"Regarding that fact that there is quite a large number of complaints, I think that SkyToll (electronic road-toll system operator) should have predicted or expected certain things and it could have been better prepared," said head of the committee Maros Kondrot (Smer-SD).

Representatives of the Union of Slovak Hauliers (UNAS) took part in the session as well, complaining about the first invoices they've received. According to them, the invoices can't be used as a tax receipt, as they haven't been categorised as invoices, but as calls for payments. Some lawyers have even recommended not paying. "Neither the accountant, nor the Tax Office will accept this as a tax receipt," said Jaroslav Polacek from UNAS.

According to hauliers, the documents also lack specifications of tarriffed sections of roads that were used, thus their business partners can refuse to repay them – as they need exact documentation first.

Kondrot described the problems of hauliers as "really a bit too much".
