Lawmakers Slash Misadjusted OBU Fine from €1655 to €120

Bratislava, January 20 (TASR) - Parliament voted overwhelmingly on Wednesday to approve an amendment to the Electronic Road-Toll Collection Act reducing the ticket fine for incorrectly connected on-board units (OBUs) from €1,655 to €120 with effect from February 1.

Currently drivers of lorries weighing more than 3.5 tonnes are required to pay €1,655 for any breach of the Road-Toll Collection Act.

The transport ministry-drafted amendment is designed to cut the fine for offences where drivers fail to enter data into an OBU, enter incomplete or false information, or fail to make them available to the road-toll administrator.

The amendment expands the range of toll-free cars to include the vehicles of emergency service and police.

Legislators too have okayed Smer-SD MP Peter Pelegrini's amending proposal for the lowered ticket fine to have retroactive effect as of January 1, and thereby apply to drivers with their fines currently under review.
