Bratislava, January 19 (TASR) - As of the next election period, Slovakia should have only 12 instead of the current 14 ministries in line with a plan that was submitted by Premier Robert Fico on Friday and passed by the Government on Tuesday.
The plan proposes terminating the Construction and Regional Development Ministry and the Environment Ministry, and transferring their portfolios to a newly-created Economy and Construction Ministry and a new Agriculture, Environment and Regional Development Ministry.
The supervision of European Union funds will pass from the Construction and Regional Development Ministry to the Government Office.
Also under the new changes, the Education Ministry will be called the Education, Science and Research Ministry, while the Culture Ministry, which will take over matters pertaining to tourism, will see its name changed to the Culture and Tourism Ministry.
According to Fico, the above measures could save the state between €11.62 million and €13.28 million.
