Slovak Medics Leave for Haiti

Bratislava, January 19 (TASR) - Slovak doctors left for earthquake-stricken Haiti on Tuesday, rector of St. Elizabeth's Health and Social Work Higher Education Institute Vladimir Krcmery told TASR on the same day.

"This morning (Tuesday), a surgeon, two anaesthetists and two nurses left Slovakia. They should start work (in Haiti) on Wednesday," he said.

A team of technicians left on Monday, while other Slovak emergency teams are preparing to leave the country on Thursday.

According to Krcmery, the Slovak medics have 14-day supplies of medicine and food, and are very well equipped. Another team, set to leave on Thursday, has enough medicines for around 2,000 people for ten days. The medical team will rotate every ten days. "We have four teams ready, who will go for ten days each. It's impossible to work more than ten days in such extreme conditions," he stated.
