Bratislava, January 18 (TASR) - Three representatives of the Council of Europe's (CE) advisory body the Venice Commission arrived for a two-day visit to Slovakia on Monday to give their legal opinion on the State Language Act, a recently adopted amendment to which led to protests from the country's Hungarian minority over perceived limitations on ethnic-language rights.
Invited by the Foreign Affairs Ministry, the Commission experts will discuss the issue with Bratislava-based authorities, including the ministries of culture, education, and foreign affairs; Vice-premier for Human Rights and Minorities Dusan Caplovic, and ethnic groups and civil society in Dunajska Streda (Trnava region).
The ethnic-Hungarian SMK party has said that it will provide the Commission experts with its own analysis along with comparisons of the content of the State Language Act and the European Charter of Regional and Minority Language Rights.
