International Christmas Bazaar Opens in Bratislava

Bratislava, November 22 (TASR) - 'The World Under One Roof' is the slogan for Bratislava's traditional Christmas Bazaar, which was opened by Slovakia's First Lady Silvia Gasparovicova in the city's PKO Culture and Leisure Centre on Sunday.

The 19th annual event aims to bring various cultures closer to people in Slovakia while raise funds for charity.

"I believe that people will appreciate all kinds of culinary goodies this year too," said the wife of the Slovak president at the ceremonial opening of the event. She's hopeful that the funds raised will help improve the lives of youngsters living in children's homes, the sick and mentally-challenged people all over Slovakia.

According to Zora Inka Groholova from the International Women's Club, which organises the bazaar, it's the largest joint event held by the diplomatic and international community living in Slovakia. A total of 38 countries are represented this year.

"At the Christmas Bazaar, every embassy in Slovakia has its own stall where it sells products, souvenirs and various delicacies and specialities from its country. It will give all the money that it raises to the International Women's Club, which will then use it for charity purposes exclusively in Slovakia," Groholova told TASR.
