Bratislava, January 17 (TASR) - Representatives of the Interior Ministry are in talks with Stefan Gonda regarding compensation after he unwittingly flew to Dublin with explosives planted in his luggage by police and then overlooked during a bungled security exercise at Poprad airport.
News of the indemnity-package negotiations was revealed Sunday by Interior Minister Robert Kalinak, who was reluctant to comment on details. However, he did say that he wants to see some portion of the damage repaid by the police officer (who has allegedly quit the police force already).
The Irish authorities acted on a tip from Slovakia and seized the explosives at Gonda's apartment. Communication wires got crossed, however, and Gonda – who has refused to speak to media in the two weeks since the incident – was arrested.
