SMK to Decide Whether or Not to Join Coalition on Saturday

Bratislava, January 15 (TASR) - The Ethnic-Hungarian SMK party's Slovakia-wide Council will decide at its session in Bratislava on Saturday whether SMK will run in this year's parliamentary elections on its own or as part of a coalition, TASR learned from SMK Council Chairman Ivan Farkas on Friday.

"I believe that the Council will discuss and bring this issue to a conclusion. If not, this will be done by March 6 at the very latest, while putting together the candidate list," said Farkas. He added that even if the council members decide that SMK will join a pre-election coalition, the party won't discuss its potential partners yet.

Another issue to be considered are the criteria according to which districts and regions will be allowed to nominate their own candidates for the candidate list. "We'll talk about the way the list will be compiled in order to maintain a regional balance," said Farkas, adding that the candidate list will be drawn up on March 6.

SMK's Council will also discuss the election programme and its election-campaign strategy.
