Pociatek Wants Banks to Introduce Standard Package of Services

Bratislava, January 14 (TASR) - Slovak banks will probably have to introduce a new product in their portfolios - a package of basic services for "ordinary clients" that would be identical at all banks, according to a law proposal on consumer credit submitted by Finance Minister Jan Pociatek and approved by the Government on Wednesday.

Pociatek said that the new measure will make it easy for people to compare banks and provide easy access to current accounts. He expects that the introduction of the products will reduce the prices of bank products on the market, as the package will be standardised and will thus create competition between individual banks. He didn't even rule out setting a maximum charge limit for the package by law. "We aren't planning that for now, but we'll see how it develops," he said.

The aforementioned package should contain a basic set of services aimed at ordinary people. "The purpose of this is to make all the institutions concerned introduce a certain basic variant of services that will be enough for a straightforward client," said Pociatek.
