Kosice, January 14 (TASR) - The explosive that travelled undetected on board a plane from Poprad (Presov region) to Dublin kicked off long-prepared processes aimed at discrediting the Interior Ministry, the Slovak Police Corps and Smer-SD party, Interior Minister (Smer nominee) Robert Kalinak said in Kosice on Thursday.
"The media are receiving anonymous announcements, whose author can be no-one other than the Opposition parties, the most active of which is the Christian Democrats (KDH) party, which has been using these methods for years. What Pravda daily, in cooperation with KDH party, published today (Thursday), transgressed all boundaries of professionalism and decency," said Kalinak.
Kalinak was responding to the fact that Pravda published an item on a tender carried out by the Interior Ministrz for cleaning, construction-assembly and other works without providing scope for comment by the ministry. In addition, KDH vice-chairman Daniel Lipsic then called a press conference without verifying the information with the ministry, said Kalinak.
"The tender concerned was absolutely fair and transparent, which was also confirmed by the fact that no objections were raised by either applicants or the Public Procurement Office," said the minister.
"The Interior Ministry chose ISS Facility Service out of five applicants, with their offer being the cheapest. Simultaneously with the contract, which was signed in June 2009, an internal regulation came into force, according to which the individual ministry units aren't obliged to abide by the framework agreement if they can secure cheaper services with other companies," said Kalinak.
Lipsic said at a news conference earlier on Thursday that several uncertainties concerning the tender are arousing suspicion that the competition is overpriced and "made" for one specific company. Lipsic was speaking in reaction to a Pravda daily article, according to which the ministry procured the said services for €26 million.
