Bratislava, January 14 (TASR) - Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero meeting his Slovak counterpart Robert Fico on Thursday congratulated Slovakia on its economic growth in the face of the severe global economic crisis.
Slovakia has seen its economy grow in recent times, and it is expected to grow still further, said Zapatero, who is on a one-day visit to the country as part of his whistlestop tour of the European Union at the start of his country's presidency of the 27-country bloc.
Zapatero pledged support for Fico's plea that Spain during its half-year presidency pay attention to the energy security and help ensure energy links.
Fico stressed that Slovakia fully supports all the priorities set out by Spain for the EU and commends Spain that it promotes social aspects in the fight against crisis and he proposed enhancing cooperation in this sphere with his fellow Social Democrat prime minister.
