Bratislava, January 13 (TASR) - Former governor of Slovakia's Central Bank (NBS) Ivan Sramko will soon become Slovakia's Ambassador to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris. Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak confirmed following the Government session on Wednesday.
Lajcak added that Sramko is expected to take office in the weeks ahead. "I believe he's highly qualified for the job, which is actually very specific. His experience as a chief of NBS forms a solid basis (for his appointment)," he commented.
Sramko, whose five-year term in office of NBS governor expired at the end of 2009, himself turned the opportunity for a second term. The Government and Parliament approved the proposal for the new governor's (Jozef Makuch) appointment in December, and President Ivan Gasparovic appointed him to the post on Monday.
