Jahnatek: Current Government Has Supported More FDI with Less Money

Bratislava, January 13 (TASR) - Since 2006 and the current Government coming to power in mid-year, as much as €687.39 million has been allocated from the state budget to support 76 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects. In total, these projects have created 25,861 jobs to date, Economy Minister Lubomir Jahnatek said on Wednesday.

Jahnatek admitted that the amount used to boost the investment influx through stimulus packages and tax holidays in this election period is lower than it was during the former government. However, the number of investment projects radically increased during this time, he stressed. "During the government led by Mikulas Dzurinda (2002-2006) it was 21 FDI projects - creating 14,097 jobs - that were supported by €850.02 million," minister argued in making the case for the current Government's effective use of stimuli packages.

When it comes to investment inflow and Slovakia's performance in this respect, the most up-to-date figures can be found in an Economy Ministry report that was approved by the Cabinet on Wednesday.
