Bratislava, January 13 (TASR) - Opposition representatives on Monday announced that they plan to start collecting the signatures necessary to summon an extraordinary parliamentary session with a no-confidence vote in Interior Minister Robert Kalinak on the agenda.
According to Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) chairman Jan Figel, who spoke to journalists after the opposition meeting, the attempt to dismiss Kalinak is a response to the scandal following the incident on January 2 in which an airport security exercise went awry and resulted in a sample of explosives being sent to Dublin in the luggage of an unwitting traveller.
"We see three reasons to draw political consequences against Mr. Kalinak. The Slovak Constitution has been breached in a grave manner, as were domestic and international regulations. People were exposed to risk and threats. Travellers are serving as guinea pigs to test airport security measures," explained Figel, who added that the third reason is Slovakia's unprecedented international humiliation and the fact that the country has been considerably discredited in the eyes of its partners in the war against terrorism.
