Premier of Montenegro Djukanovic to Visit Slovakia on Monday

Bratislava, January 13 (TASR) - Prime Minister of Montenegro Milo Djukanovic will visit Slovakia on Monday, January 18, for the first time since Montenegro's declaration of independence on June 6, 2003, TASR learned on Monday.

Slovak Premier Robert Fico and Djukanovic will asses the state of bilateral relations and the opportunities for intensifying the political dialogue between the two countries and strengthening economic co-operation. Fico will also confirm Slovakia's support for Montenegro's ambitions to join the European Union and NATO. Montenegro is currently focusing on maintaining its economic and social stability and moving closer to these two institutions.

The talks will also focus on developments in international issues and the situation in the Western Balkans.

Slovakia plans to open a representative office in Montenegro, although Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak said that it would be premature to talk about any details, as everything depends on Slovakia's economic development. He noted that Foreign Affairs Ministry expenditures have had to be reduced due to the global economic crisis.
