PSA Peugeot-Citroen to Prolong Afternoon Work Shifts

Trnava, January 12 (TASR) - Employees of PSA Peugeot-Citroen Slovakia based in Trnava will need to work one hour longer on afternoon shifts until April 9, rather than until February 15 as previously decided, TASR has been told by Peugeot spokesman Peter Svec.

The reason behind this measure is continuing increased demand for the Citroen C3 Picasso and Peugeot 207 cars. The company management has also decided to introduce four working Saturdays, with three in February and one in March.

"In order to deliver the cars to the customers on time, we need to increase temporarily the production capacity of our factory in early 2010. Back in December, we reached a decision to prolong afternoon shifts by one hour between January 11-February 15. However, clear signals indicative of sustained and increased demand have called for this to be extended until April 2010," said Svec.

The beginning of 2010 has proven to be more positive for PSA Peugeot-Citroen Slovakia than 2009. On one hand, the increased demand for the Citroen C3 Picasso, manufactured only in Trnava, still persists.

"On the other hand, there are various ecological bonuses in place in European countries with high levels of demand (for instance, Germany and Italy). This means that we're currently registering an increased number of orders, as the customers - trying to take advantage of various scrapyard contributions - ordered cars prior to the end of 2009. It's these vehicles that will be produced in early 2010," added Svec.
