Cairo, January 11 (TASR) - Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak has met his Egyptian counterpart Ahmed Abul Gheit on Monday and urged him to take a look into the case of a Slovak mother whose child has been kidnapped by her Egyptian husband.
"It's quite a delicate case and I'd like to use the opportunity to discuss it directly with Egyptian representatives," Lajcak told TASR on Monday.
The Egyptian court has found the Egyptian spouse of Katarina Azab guilty and awarded the custody of the child to the mother. However, the verdict hasn't been carried out yet, as the father and son are in hiding.
According to Lajcak, having a prompt resolution of the case might help to improve the relations between Egypt and Slovakia. Lajcak reminded his counterpart that Egypt belongs among the most popular non-European destinations for Slovak tourists and the case of the kidnapped boy sheds a bad light at the relations between the two countries. Egyptian Minister Gheit promised to help and sent instructions for Egyptian Interior Minister to take the necessary steps at once.
During talks with the Egyptian side, Lajcak highlighted the long and rich history of bilateral relations and how they need to be further developed. He conveyed his appreciation of the cultural co-operation between Egypt and Slovakia, especially the study of Slovak orientalists in Egypt.
The couple met through their mutual involvement in the travel business and lived in Egypt. The child was born in Great Britain.
