New York, November 21 (TASR) - During the meeting with Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak late Friday, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon appreciated Slovakia's activity in UN security reform, Foreign Affairs Ministry's spokesman Peter Stano told TASR on Saturday.
Ban Ki-moon appreciated efforts of Slovak diplomacy to co-ordinate efforts of the international community in post-conflict areas. Slovak diplomacy is working in this area at the instigation of UN Secretary General since its stint as a temporary member of the UN Security Council in 2006-07.
Lajcak and Ban Ki-moon also talked about the situation in Afghanistan. "Slovakia will support the efforts of UN aimed at stabilisation and development of the country, mainly through our work in ISAF mission," said Lajcak, confirming Slovakia's plan to increase the number of soldiers in the mission. The two politicians also talked about the climate change, where Slovakia backs the UN chief's effort to reach a legally binding treaty to cut emissions at next month's UN conference in Copenhagen.
Ban Ki-moon and Lajcak also discussed the 20th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution in 1989 and friendly division of Czechoslovakia in 1993.
