Bratislava, January 10 (TASR) - Slovak President Ivan Gasparovic told journalists in Bratislava on Sunday that he welcomes the decision to stop airport security tests that involve sniffer dogs looking for explosives placed in the luggage of ordinary travellers.
Gasparovic was reacting to the scandal that emerged after police as part of a training exercise hid ninety grams of explosive in the luggage of a Slovak citizen who boarded a plane in Poprad (Presov region) to Ireland on Saturday, January 2. Despite the fact that a dog found the substance, it was taken on the plane after the police forgot to remove it.
"It's very bad that something like this has happened. It's good that such a type of training exercise won't be continued, because such training is truly outside all public and human rights," said Gasparovic.
He noted that similar training exercises are carried out in other countries as well, but stressed that these also violate people's rights.
The only positive aspect of the whole incident is the fact that it highlighted this type of testing, added the president.
