Bratislava, January 8 (TASR) - Prime Minister Robert Fico on Friday met with representatives of the National Highway Company (NDS) and SkyToll, the company that runs the newly introduced electronic toll-collection system. Fico called on them to find a more candid way for lorry drivers paying toll for using sections of motorways and other toll-related roads.
"Premier has asked NDS and SkyToll to take fast-tracked measures vis-a-vis 850 road sections where the toll collection applies," Fico's spokeswoman Silvia Glendova informed. She added that premier expects that the measures will minimalize the number of cases when drivers have to pay for using whole sections even though they use only parts of them.
In order to achieve this, NDS and SkyToll will have to meet representatives of the Association of Transporters (CESMAD) as well as with other transporters who are expressing their discontent towards the running of the the electronic toll-collection system which was launched in Slovakia on January 1.
At the same time, Glendova informed that now protesting hauliers haven't yet confirmed to Fico if they'd be willing to discuss the matter with him on Monday, January 11.
Dissatisfied carriers wanted to meet him in Government's Office on Friday, which he rejected. He said he would be talking to them only if they stop protesting by the end of weekend. For the moment, it's unknown if they would do so. The Slovak Road Transporters Union (UNAS) haven't released any statement yet.
