UNAS: More Than 400 Lorries to Block Bratislava on Friday

Bratislava, January 7 (TASR) - More than 400 lorries are expected to block Bratislava's roads on Friday in protest against the functioning of the electronic road-toll system that was launched on New Year's Day, TASR was told by Jaroslav Polacek of the Union of Slovak Carriers (UNAS) on Thursday.

With the protest, the carriers also want to push through their basic demands, such as reductions in fuel and road taxes and a postponement of the road toll by six months.

"Around 400 lorries are currently in Bratislava. Others are on the way," said Polacek, adding that the hauliers will decide on the details of the protest, such as specific roads to be blocked, on Thursday evening.

Transport Minister Lubomir Vazny earlier in the day claimed that the road-toll system is running well, and the hauliers are only misusing the situation to cover their own failure to register into the system on time.
