SkyToll Expects Situation vis-a-vis Road Toll to Calm Down in February

Bratislava, January 7 (TASR) - Matej Okali, general director of the company SkyToll, which operates the road-toll system in Slovakia, expects that the situation that has emerged vis-a-vis the introduction of the electronic road-toll system on January 1 will calm down at the beginning of February.

The long queues at the border crossings are mostly made up by foreign carriers, who didn't register into the road-toll system in 2009 despite being repeatedly asked to.

According to Okali, Svrcinovec (Zilina region) represents the most problematic border crossing, which is used mostly by Czech and Polish transport companies.

Since January 1, 2010 more than €826,000 has been collected, with around 73,000 vehicles registered into the system. In December, SkyToll was rejecting any possibility of problems to emerge with the system.

Okali also denied that there were any system failures. He only admitted a short system crash a few days ago that took place at night and thereby didn't influence the registration process. The SkyToll director also calls on the carriers and proprietors of transport companies to have all documents required for registration at their disposal, a preparation that would speed up the whole process.
