Bratislava, January 7 (TASR) - The ethnic-Hungarian SMK party has proposed a meeting with its opposition partners in the upcoming week to harmonise mutual activities vis-a-vis the grave mistakes of several members of the Slovak Government, TASR learned from SMK's press department on Thursday.
According to SMK, the government members concerned are Interior Minister Robert Kalinak, responsible for the scandal concerning explosives placed by police in the luggage of an unwitting Slovak travelling from Poprad airport (Presov region) to Dublin, Labour Minister Viera Tomanova for her ministry's tenders and Transport Minister Lubomir Vazny due to "the botched introduction of the electronic road-toll system". SMK is convinced that these cases are so serious that they should be dealt with in Parliament.
"If the minister (Kalinak) doesn't pass any follow-up decisions, we'll hold talks with other opposition parties in order to transfer this discussion to Parliament," said Christian Democrat (KDH) chairman Jan Figel on the same day about what KDH might do if Kalinak doesn't submit his resignation. "The interior minister is the first one who should act in a suitable manner. Personal responsibility is also a matter of honour," he said.
The interior minister views the incident as the individual failure of one police officer, ministry spokesman Erik Tomas told TASR on Wednesday, adding that the officer concerned will face disciplinary proceedings.
